Success Stories
Ubah Mohamed Abdi
"From Curiosity to Confidence – My Journey into the Digital World under RYEH Digital innovation Hub”
"Before the training, I barely knew what digital work meant. Now, I help others grow their businesses online. I feel proud to call myself a digital girl."
— Ubah Mohamed Abdi, 20, Hagadera Camp
"I am Ubah Mohamed Abdi, a 20-year-old female living in Hagadera Refugee Camp in Dadaab. Like many young women in the camp, I had limited access to technology and no idea how the digital economy could include someone like me.
That changed when I joined Cohort 1 of the RYEH Digital
innovation Hub” Training under the ILO Innovation Challenge. The sessions were practical and engaging, covering Social Media Marketing and Truck Dispatch Coordination. For the first time, I wasn’t just learning—I was preparing for real work.
After graduating, I began helping small businesses in my community, creating Facebook pages, and designing flyers. One mama mboga even called me her "digital girl." These experiences showed me that even in a refugee camp, young
women can lead and thrive in the digital space.
Thanks to RYEH and ILO, I no longer see barriers. I now see possibilities."

MERCY AKUOT
At just 15, South Sudanese refugee Mercy Akuot was married off against her will to an elderly man. Refusing to accept a future defined by fear and force, she bravely escaped the union and later relocated from Kakuma camp to Dadaab, fleeing further threats of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
Today, Mercy is not just a survivor — she is a leader. Thanks to training from Refugee Youth Education Hub (RYEH) in digital skills, including graphic design and photography, Mercy transformed her life. After completing RYEH's course, she now works as a freelancer from within the camp, earning a sustainable income on Upwork and other online platforms.
Beyond her freelance work, Mercy advocates fiercely for women's rights and supervises a women and girls empowerment program in Dadaab, turning her pain into purpose — and proving that with the right skills and support, refugee youth can rewrite their futures.
RYEH is proud to stand with Mercy as she builds a life of dignity, independence, and impact.

Our Core Values
We practice what we preach
Integrity
RYEH Digital Innovation Hub is built on trust. We are a refugee-led organisation and we hold ourselves accountable to the youth we serve, our volunteers, and our partners. Every book, device and opportunity entrusted to us reaches the people it was meant for.
Empowerment
Education gave our founder the agency to shape his own future, and we exist to give that to others. Through digital skills, learning spaces and mentorship, we equip refugee and host community youth to make their own decisions and build their own livelihoods.
Innovation
From a book drive to a digital hub, our work grows with the needs of our community. We use technology, creativity and practical thinking to widen access to learning for young people in Dadaab and beyond.
Inclusivity
Talent is everywhere, including in the camps. We design our programs so that every young person has a seat, whatever their gender, ability, clan or background, and we make sure girls, young women and persons with disabilities are not left behind.
Resilience
Our community has lived through displacement and still chose to learn. We treat education and digital skills as tools for resilience, helping young people recover, adapt and build a stronger future for themselves and their families.
We Work With the Very Best
